Motion Blur Tutorial Video

This is the tutorial video for learning how to do motion blur.  This is the final post for my senior project.  While this is the last post as being my product for my graduation project, I still plan on posting pictures on a daily basis as I was after my graduation project is finalized.  Thank you to everyone who has followed my posts. :)

Motion Blur Technique 7

That's it for this week of motion blur and the last picture for my product for my graduation product.  This subject of this picture is a quarter that I had dropped and captured as it hit the counter top.  Tomorrow, I'll be posting a tutorial video on how to do motion blur.

Motion Blur Technique 6

This picture was edited in Photoshop to add the motion blur. Originally, the subject of this picture, which is the vehicle, was stationary.  Adding motion blur to the picture gives the appearance that the vehicle is moving.  I will be posting a tutorial on how to do motion blur with a camera and adding it in with Photoshop after tomorrow.

Motion Blur Technique 5

Motion Blur is a lot similar to light painting.  Both need longer exposure times than a normal picture, both need the camera to be stable to prevent shaking to prevent ruining the picture.  Motion blur can also be manipulated with a regular picture in Photoshop.  Tomorrow, I'll be posting a picture that I will edit in Photoshop.

Motion Blur Technique 4

The use of a tripod or another way to stabilize the camera is essential for motion blur.  By stabilizing the camera, the motion blur is picked up without ruining the entire picture from camera movement. In this picture, I've set my camera on a box to prevent movement.  The only movement that is picked up is the movement of my hand on the lid of the matchbox and the matchstick moving across the matchbox.

Motion Blur Technique 3

This is an example of having a shutter speed that is too slow.  The subject of this picture is the necklace pendant swinging.  What I was trying to do was to capture the necklace mid air with blur behind it.  Instead, the camera took the picture too late because of the exposure time I set.  In order to have gotten the result I wanted, I could have either set a faster exposure time or moved the necklace slower.

Motion Blur Technique 2

The motion blur technique is used to show a sense of speed with the subject of a picture.  The shutter speed of your camera should be slowed down to capture the blur.  The setting I used to take this picture and all of the other motion blur pictures I took is called "Shutter Priority AE".  Shutter Priority AE is just like manual mode except the aperture automatically adjusts itself so you can focus primarily on getting the right exposure time.

This last technique I will be showing is the Motion Blur technique.  As always, I will be doing a week of pictures with explanations and at the end I will post a tutorial.
